Stillsy
Iv recently been given the rights to shoot over a river/brook thats wide/shallow at the edges full of reeds and weeds and marshy and boggy in areas, there are always duck on the river naturally. About 800 meters away is the farmers pond which is amongst the farm, so to close to shoot! he has been feeding the pond for years as he just likes to see ducks around, he feeds in about 200 mallard a night. There are plenty of ducks in the area, within half a mile there are 3 lakes, a pond, the canal, the river avon so plenty of water! I want some advice on hows best to shoot/feed the river and attract more ducks! i understand and get flight ponds, feed barley/wheat/potatoes etc in the shallow bays in the evening, shoot once a fortnight as they flight in, is it just the same on the river? will they come in, in the evening? or just feed during the day? will they sleep on the river? it does get very wide in parts almost up to 80ft? just some general all round advice would be great as my knowledge on duck shooting is limited and I'm really keen to make the most of this opportunity! Many thanks Stillsy.
henry d
Watch for where them flight off the river and onto the farm pond in all wind conditions and wait there. There is no use trying to compete with someone who has that amount of feed and all those duck coming in, especially if you try to feed the river as it will either be washed away or eaten by rats.
