Bluebarrels
you pays your money and takes your choice. the thing with this is learning by your mistakes is half the fun i think. And thats a fair point What i find hard to understand, lots of people here are screaming to get out on a days shooting/ferreting etc, however when its offered by OTH and Lez for lets face it a token fee, they get shot down in flames If i was not lucky enough to have decent shooting permissions,i woudnt think twice about the prices advertised If they had posted there services for free,we all know there PM boxs would have been full problem is most want something for nothing, and lets face it everything costs nowadays BB
jimmyh1988
well you know i totally agree with you blue if it was free there pm boxes woild be bursting at the seams . you dont get something for nothing so dont look a gift horse in the mouth fortunately for me i have a permission i can hunt rabbit on with my rifle but i dont have ferrets . however if i was in fulltime work and not a student i would happily pay £
Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
On a different note. I wonder how many of cash for sport days go though the books with all these guides? just enough I suppose. And I still think Johnnys above statement is well below the belts of guides on this forum as bascally your saying that there fiddling the taxman. ron
I guess many people including myself have mixed opinions regarding what you are trying to do here. from what I gather, you want to charge £50 for a days worth of ferreting. While me personaly wouldn't pay, it is only because I have no interest in ferreting. But for somebody who is looking into getting into this side of the sport, then it could prove to be invaluable in terms of what needs to be done on a day out and costings for the ferrets, nets etc. This isn't exactly a huge sum to pay for a days experience, in which case it may well take off. If you are going to/hope to use this as a main income then it is way to small an amount to charge, taking into account insurance, fuel to and from the area. I cant see you making a living off of that amount per day. Do the landowners get any cut from the amount charged as you would effectivley be running a type of business off of the back of theirs. My guess is that they are not bothered about this, as you are fulfilling your obligation of controling the vermin on their land. There is no harm in trying it out, if it takes off and you can make a few bob from it then fair play, you cant knock a trier! The only way you can get any form of input is by canvassing opinion through a site like this, where, as demonstrated you get both sides of the argument. snozzer
Go for it, I think it is a great deal, perhaps too cheap, the Hawking Sschool charge £
got_the_eye_in
I say go for it, seems reasonable to me and if I was closer I would take you up on the offer as ive not done any ferretting before. Is it netting or bolting? The only thing that I would say is to give people an idea of the expected bag and if this is not reached maybe a discount could be given? Maybe you should take another member out that you feel suitable to give you an unbiased report on the day and that way other members can make their own mind up Good luck
Geo
I used to go ferreting a lot with a mate who also introduced me to fishing /Hare coursing(some time ago obviously)/beating etc as he had been brought up with it . He owned the ferrets and the nets and I just used to go along and we had a good time. I guess a lot of people start out like this innocently enjoying country past times with mates, hence the reaction to being charged £50 . Although there are also those who haven't had the opportunity of growing up in the countryside , have become interested in later life and have the means to pay for a few lessons in order to make up for lost time. I am in that position as far as shooting goes ,I am starting lessons this weekend as I don't know anyone that can teach me for free so I am paying for it ,and also for my son so that he can have the benefit of enjoying healthy outdoor pursuits as he grows up. Last week I paid £20 to fish a trout lake for 5 hours caught a few rainbows took them home and ate them , quite satisfied with a good afternoon's sport in beautiful surroundings. I am sure if a few rabbits were thrown in at the end of the day OTH would have more takers, ridiculously expensive at the supermarket or butchers. Personally I wouldn't pay £50 for ferreting having been many times before , but I can understand why some would.
Geo
If this debate took place in a pub we would all get thrown out due to the undoubted noise we would be making.Lets look at the simple economics, those that could afford the £50.00 are probably at work, and so there for would probably be only able to do weekends, you would therefore only make about £100.00 each week, not much to live on. I base this on my Novice shooting days where I charge £25.00 for 3 hours (please do not start on me, I am trying to bring closure). my busiest days are "week ends" what do I do during the week, shoot pigeons on my own or with friends who have managed to get an afternoon off. Good luck to OTH, the topic should not have been raised so close to the AL4X topic of earlier this week. bakerboy £25 for 3 hours sounds good . When is the next one ?
