gibby
Have got a few pieces of antler lying around, how can i make a knife handle out of this? I was thinking along the lines of sticking sections together with araldite or something and then cutting to correct shape etc. Has any one made one, if so how? Cheers Gibby

Cheers Gibby Hello Gibby, I made a knife handle last year from a block of wood, there isn't much too it really, but depending on the shape of the tang you may need some very long thin drill bit to get you started. If you have any specific questions fire away, I will do what I can to answer, in the meantime I will dog out some pictures if I can find them that is :*)
gibby
What did you use to treat the handle stuart?
Dunkield
Ahh at home now and found the pictures.... I drilled down into the wood with 2 small, but very long holes, the length of the tang on the blade, and then filed from one hole accross to the other using swiss needle files, or you could use riffler files. Did the same with the antler, and glued the whole lot up with araldite, whilst clamping it in workmate. Then gripped the blade in the vice and started filing/sanding etc. From memory I just used boiled linseed oil on this one and brasso (the old favourite) on the deer antler. Ended up with this:

tenbears10
I can recommend Brisa for knife making bits. They are abroad but quick delivery and good prices.
Dunkield
TBT, Nice link thanks for that I have a feeling you may have just cost me some money though, those damascus blades look very tempting! as I am probably never go to have a damascus shotgun I may as well go for the knife
