njc110381
Just wondering if anyone could help me? I wouldn't mind trying Herc 2400 in my Hornet. At 7 grains per load though I don't want to buy a tub to find out it's not that good. Is anyone using it so I could pinch a film tub full? Obviously I'll buy you a couple of beers or cover the cost of it if you wouldn't mind letting me steal a bit!
njc110381
I've just read that Hercules 2400 is now Alliant 2400 but that it may not be the same. Makes sense as the Alliant site lists 9grns max load and the Lee book states 7.5 for a 45grn bullet. That's quite a difference in a case the size of the Hornet! Evos
Hi My first post & this is what I wanted to know, been surfing & they are the same. I had been using Alliant's own data, meaning i have been pushing my 45g heads with 9gn of 2400. First time I used rifle last week & grouping was 1 & half inch at 100 yrds so still needs some work. No sighns of over pressure, I dont need it running that hot so will bring it down a bit looking at Lee's reloading data. I though I read some where that 2400 was the powder of choice & taylord for the hornet when first introduced, i may be wrong but that rings a bell. You probably have some powder by now, i would of given you some if I lived closer.
Underdog
2400 is brilliant powder and not just for Hornet too. I ran a Hornet on it a while back and would return to it in a blink. I'm sure I was using more than 9grn but I was using 40grn bullets!! The one thing I did notice though was that it can leave what looks like unburnt grains in the barrel, the higher the pressure the better it got. Did not hinder how it shot one bit. Good luck. U. njc110381
I think 2400 was called 2400 because that's how fast it would push a 45gr (or was it 40gr?) bullet out of a Hornet? I've long since given up this plan. I use Lil-Gun pretty much all the time although I've just got some H110 to try thanks to a local PW member (you know who you are - thanks for that).
