Managed to get out today for the first time in three weeks, on some rape that I had seen 2-300 on yesterday, with plenty flighting in from nearby woods. Arriving just after first light, I wished I had been there 15 mins earlier as wave after wave of pigeons flighted over the field and off to feed somewhere else. I set up quickly and managed four or so in the first hour, then it slowed off badly. Despite hundreds yesterday, now the birds were off eleswhere, and frustratingly I could see them flighting across to land I can't shoot on. I waited it out and managed to add very slowly to the bag, though the strong winds were making the shooting challenging to say the least! Several rain showers later, the birds that I had seen in the morning started flighting back, some to the decoys but most straight over me to the woods behind. The next hour was great sport, fast birds with the wind behind them, I still missed plenty but had some corkers to remember. Final tally 18 and a long walk back to the car in a hailstorm.
