.223 speeds

Recommended Posts

I've just read Rimmie's thread on .223 loads, and the number of us using 22.ish gr of Vit 130/3 took me by surprise.

For a long time now I've run 55g Vmax over 26.2 gr of Vit 140 to get 3,100 fps.

That's a big difference in powder weight, so do tell, what speeds do you achieve on the light charge?

N140 is very slow for light bullets in a 223, most people would use something in the N130-N135 range. Have you chronographed your load, or is that the book velocity?

I get around 3200 from a 50gr Vmax using N133, it will go faster, but it gives best accuracy at this speed.

Hope this helps

my m8 uses n133 in his 223 with 50gr . n140 is a bit slow for a 223 with 55gr.

n133 and n135 is what i would think of useing also burns a bit cooler to. My m8 is getting 3450 with his load with 50gr nosler moly.
