Ferret Master
Hi, Sadly a lovely specimen of a Sparrowhawk has crashed into the windows on our house and died. Is it legal to get it stuffed by a taxidermist? I ask this because it is a protected bird and I don't know if you need a licence to get it stuffed. It is in very good nick so it would be a shame to just bin it. FM
Highlander
You don't need a licence just need to provide a provenence. Make sure it's not got any metal in it before you hand it over

Slipster
I Found a female sparrowhawk and had it stuffed Its not illegal to have them stuffed BUT it is illegal to sell them as i found out when trying to sell mine on Ebay The govt DEFRA wrote me a very nice email stating all the laws and imprisonment terms for trying to sell protected species without first registering it with them, and they then provide you with a cert. I took it off ebay and still have it, couldnt be ***** going through all the paperwork PS It was quite while ago now so im sure some of the above has been changed, but if you are in any doubt contact DEFRA and they will put you right Slipster :(

woodyfirst
I had a sparrowhawk the other day...I found it with its beak impaled on barbed wire, in a hedge opposite my house. I reckon it had dived for something and hit the wire. Must have been there for a while before it died, poor ******. I did think about having it stuffed, but its a lot of money! That said, I haven't added to my taxidermy collection for a good few years now!
