sako751sg
Looking at Frenchies top pics of the birds,i thought i would show you Bully. He was picked off the road nearly a year and a half ago after a night of shocking winds. He hadnt even moulted to his adult plummage and only his singing made us think he was cock. One wing drooped and it was touch and go wether he lived but after a few weeks in a wee hospital cage he came to.Not a great life for a wild bird in a cage but to hear him singing when hes in full voice is better than wringing him.He cant wait for his slice of whole grain toast first thing in the morning and hes very partial to a bit of popcorn now and again and obviously a slice of apple doesnt last long. He cant fly with the drooping wing fella. We would have let him go once he recovered but im afraid his wing it damaged at the joint so its a no no.We know its not ideal for a wild bird but he sings non stop some days so hopefully he prefers this to having his neck pulled. Frenchieboy
Respect to you mate for giving the little chap a chance of a life! Being cared for in a cage has to be better than what the alternative might have been!

Blunderbust
Good on you, I am sure if the wee bird was not content with what you have provided him he would not be singing and would eventualy give up and die. Well done

Fisherman Mike
If you ever need to find a home for him I keep and breed British & foreign finches Sako and would be able to offer him a good home and possibly a mate with a British or Siberian Bullfinch. Dont overdo the toast and apple, make sure he gets a good british finch mix and a spray or two of apple or cherry buds in the spring. If you did get a mate for him in order to comply with the law you would have to get a captive bred bird and any siblings close rung to comply with Defra regulations. Close rung captive Bred British Bull finches do come up for sale from time to time try this website for a wealth of information, http://www.featheredflyer.co.uk/ the members are akin to PW members. Quite the most beautiful resident bird in full mating plumage in my opinion.. Well done.

Quite the most beautiful resident bird in full mating plumage in my opinion.. Well done. Agree with you about one of the most beautiful resident birds esp with a lovely black cap but bully doesnt seem to get the deep colours and i presume he lacks the natural wild feed that helps to enhance that, although the goldies in full bloom have a terrrrific mix of colours. He doesnt actually eat the toast, its the mixed seed on it and of course bullfinches love the sunflowers. The old fella has had birds for about 40 years but stopped last year, and his last avairy was about 20 yards by 5 and it was great so see them in a semi wild enviroment.Unfortunately the finches up here have declined dramatically although its a long time since ive seen so many goldies, and the mother in laws place always holds a good number of bullies that always seem the tamest of the finches. He also laps up the shepherds purse, chickweed and any other greenery in season and goes wild with a strawberry now and again. As you say the finch mix is most important and a must for them. Will keep you in mind if its time to move him on as it would be good for him to get a hen for company.
