njc110381
I know we have some pretty keen shots on here and also a couple of gunsmiths too. What would the minimum thread size be for when I get my .338 done? I'm thinking 1/2" UNF may not be so good on this one!
Rem223
It would be helpful to know the muzzle diameter. I am guessing about .7" though Lilja has a chart which suggests it is .625" A 5/8 UNF might be possible, but since 5/8" is .625" it might be a bit sloppy. A 14mm metric fine thread would probably be a better option.
njc110381
Lilja is right, .625" or 15.88mm according to my vernier. What is 14mm metric fine? 14x1mm? Edited November 26, 2010 by njc110381
bigstevouk
Think you should be looking at a 18x1 or 20x1, 18x1 is what i used on heavy barrel .

You numpty! How can I get an 18mm thread on a sub 16mm barrel? Nice one Stevo! 14x1, right. Could a 1/2" unf mod be drilled and re-tapped to accept that thread or are they too close? Haven't we done that this week M14x1-mm tapping drill is 13-mm, so yes if the 1/2 thread was properly formed in the first place yes you can. Neil.
