crow decoying

Has anyone shot crows over deeks in the snow?

Me and a mate had planned on having a crack at some crows tomorrow morning

We arranged it before the snow.

I was thinking of clearing the snow off a piece of the field and putting a handful of deeks out with an opened up rabbit.

has anyone done it before?

Sure have, I just use the deeks and a rotary with a couple of dead crows on it and have great fun. As long as you are in the area that they are hitting then you should have a good day.

I would normaly only put a dead bunny out when I am shooting with a rifle as I am looking for them to settle on the deck.

Have a good one.

Don't expect action unless crows are actively using the area, personally i wouldn't want to wise them up yet- prefer to hit them hard before and into nesting time personally for greatest effect locally

Why would you sit out in the snow/cold if the crows wernt actively using the area?:lol:

shooting crows can be very productive in the snow, obviously the area you have in mind to decoy has a good amount of crows about, good luck and let us know how you get on :good::good: BB

Well due to horses near by we will be using moderated guns so I want them as close as possible.

Coz some see Deeks as a magic lure but Crows aint daft if there aint reason for the crows to be in that location they will not be fooled. if the crows are just passing there are better ways to handle it you see :good:

Fieldcraft is important when decoying crows and there is more to it than just the decoys as you are saying but If the crows are passing on a flightline and you have a realistic set up there is no reason why the decoys cant work brilliantly. What better ways are there to handle it?

Kent im not been funny mate, but how can you fool crows if they aint there? :hmm:

Normally you would set your hide, decoy pattern in an area actively used,by crows pigeons etc ,either on a flightline or feeding area  otherwise your going to be sat out in the cold with only a chance of a passing shot  BB

Due to it bucketing down this morning we gave the crows a miss.

Instead i went for a walk round a different spot and ended up spending 2 hrs in a little wood.

I bagged 4 woodies, all 4 were really satisfying shots taken as they flew over the wood.

The pigeons crops were crammed with what looks like cabbage and i think rose hips!

Not crows and not a big bag but a bloody lovely way to spend an afternoon.
