SNAKEBITE
Went out this morning and was not hopeful as the weather was dire. Still bedded myself down in the barn and was facing the trees in front. Everything was fully camoed up and well hidden. Did not have to wait long when a couple of magpies presented themselves, however the twigs were covering the target. A couple more flitted in and (in my best magazine style.......) within a couple of seconds I had sent a .22 leaden payload zinging it's way to serve instant retribution to the black and white nest raider. It's lifeless body fell downwards and......... oh I can't keep this up One thing I did notice was how the rest of the magpies reacted to one of their numbers falling over. All hell broke loose. Another five or six magpies joined in with the noise. At this point they seem to lose all nervousness and another two joined their friend on the deck. However they soon cottoned on and left to a safer area. Things quietened down a bit except for a couple of woodies that were buried in the twigs. However a small flock soon presented itself and one on the out field of the flock was a perfect target. The first shot went high (I was aiming up at 45 degrees and did not take this into account!) I actually saw the pelet arc against the sky. Second shot was perfect and that added a woodie to the tally. That was it really for the day so I was begining to pack up when the Farm manager came up and said there was a feral problem in the milking shed. This was no worries so up I went and added three ferals to the tally!! Best day I have had for ages and all that despite the weather!!
