garymc
Hi All I have been looking for a cocker for a while and have now been in contact with a guy who will have some ready in a few weeks. I have had springers in the past, but this would be my first cocker. Can anyone offer me some advice on what I should be looking out for, what I should be asking? Thanks in advance! yankeedoodlepigeon
I would go for a gas hob and electric oven.

P~MX
Hello Gary, Did you contact my mate Keith ? his bitch had 7 pups, 5 bitches and 2 dogs, he says they're good big pups, he's a couple of them will be Blue Rowen's, he bread excellent quality dogs. I personally like a cocker to be big in size, mine so big many people think he's a black springer when they first see him, he's not a mut -- his uncle was British field trail champion in 2006 when he was born so there's a wee bit of quality in him this is him in the snow on Tuesday . f3

WGD
What do you want in a cocker? Assuming a decent pedigree demonstrating working lines, it's really up to you to look at the parents to see if you are likely to get a cocker demonstrating the traits you are after. Some can be very small, they tend to "buzzier" and can look like they are moving faster and showing a bit more style to catch a judges eye in trials. But IMHO some are now bred so small they are not fit for purpose as the all round dog they are bred to be, any dog that is too wee to comfortably retrieve a lively cock pheasant or a hare isn't up to the mark for me. What would I look for if I was in a room with a litter of cocker pups? The nearest door and a decent litter of springer pups but each to their own

butcherboy
If people are buying Cockers that are the size of Springers, WHY, just buy a springer. They should not be large dogs!!! What do you want to do with the cocker? Beat, rough shoot, trial? What I look for is to make sure it's black Are you after a pup or something a few months older?
