John_R
As per title, is it possible? I have one place where I can shoot, and ducks fly over it to nearby water on the wrong side of the boundary.
Swamp Beast
take a paddling pool with you! Ive put duck up from ditches and rashes approx 600m from my river so guess they do wander but have no idea to be honest. with a caller it might be work if your lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when they fly over and have plenty of decoys? poontang
What type of duck are they?
Scully
Yeah, there's no reason why it isn't possible,so long as they're on the quarry list.We sometimes ambush ducks on their way to feed in the evening, needs a fast swing through! John_R
What type of duck are they? I see a few, but mostly Mallard.
poontang
I see a few, but mostly Mallard. You may be able to get their interest with some decoys and good calling, but unlikley. I suspect it would take quite a lot to lure them away from their normal feeding/roosting sites. If they have a definite flightline to the nearby water I'd be inclined to tuck myself up underneath them somewhere and shoot them on their way in. John_R
OK, thanks for the advice.
anser2
As Poontang says find the flightline wait until you have a strong head wind for the birds and try to flight them. I have heard stories from the USA where sheets of plastic have been spread on a field and fowlers have decoyed ducks onto it. The ducks think its water. Scully
Have to admit, the plastic sheet sounds like a good idea,on a clear night.Good thinking.
John_R
Flighting could be quite tricky here as they have to clear some tall trees, making them pretty high, but I will watch to see how they go.
anser2
As long as the trees are not more than 150 feet tall :o you should be OK flighting them , but use hevi-shot or tungstun cartridges.
