adam f
Must be a glutton for punishment! After a really frustrating day on Sat where we saw 1000's of birds but they wouldnt decoy and stayed out of range - I decided to try for a few hours before work today... What a differance a few days makes? I took Tom0790 with me this morning - the plan was to join forces and ambush them at first light with a HUGE decoy pattern - bouncers, rotary, deeks - the lot... except no one told the piddies! As firs light came we have an awesome pattern out but not a single bird looked at it!! Arrrggghhhh!!! More wind today, so the birds lower, but with more snow on Monday the rape is now covered and they are sticking to the roosting trees. After an hour we decided to have a wonder and pushed up a handful of pheasant from some set-aside - I managed a nice left and right of hens and Tom bagged a fat cock bird. We then found a few pigeons on another rape field next to another roosting wood, so we moved and finished with a better last hour including a few that commited to the deeks and a few more pigeon - but after a few shots they seemed to drift off down the valley and by 10.30am it was dead... so pack up and off to work. Not a big bag, but lovely to be out - a stunning morning - saw a few Roe - a pair of hunting fox... Cheers to Tom for the company.

Steyr 6.5
Thats dedication...Your red letter day wont be far around the corner mate. I had a couple of years with only one bag around the 50 mark. then this year came along and Ive had 5 or 6 red letter days. Yours wont be far away. You just need everything to be right on the day!!! tom_0787
It was a cracking morning, thanks for the invite! Typically as soon as I had to take a work phone call the pigeons started commiting to the decoys only to vanish when I hung up! Bag size was not important but we are definately due a red letter day Edited December 24, 2010 by tom_0787
