Chedge
Does anyone know when this cartridge was made? I have been given a cartridge named 'The Banshee' which I believe was loaded by Eley by some gun maker. It is paper cased with RTO with the shot size 4 on the overshot card. Any info please? Vince Green
Hundreds of gunshops had their own brand cartridges by having cartridge makers overprint the shops name on to their cartridges. It still goes on today. Trying to identify who would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. You can date Eley cases to some extent by the headstamp if you know how. Does it have the ICI logo? Also, words like smokeless and non corrosive can be a clue. Edited December 26, 2010 by Vince Green
hanky
Looking through my collection the only gunmaker who made the "BANSHEE" was W.C.CARSWELL Ltd of Liverpool, I have one in pink and one in orange both with ICI headstamps, difficult to date but probably 1940/50`s

Floating Chamber
I have one in front of me. Headstamp Eley-Kynoch with ICI; copper percussion cap,(remember, years ago, they were percussion caps because the battery-cup was an integral part of the head and acted like a rivet, holding the components together. Separate caps and anvils were used to 're-cap',) orange paper case, rolled turn-over with RED O/S card. The "BANSHEE" Cartridge Specially Loaded by W. C. Carswell incorporating the business....etc Coat of arms etc 4a Chapel Street Liverpool etc.. When I have time later, I'll cut it open and tell you about the contents.
