Crows and what not will only descend in the daylight so it might be that when the badger is run over at night there is nothing around to peck at it. My father in law used to be in "badger rescue" where he had to pick up the bodies and record the incident etc etc. Bit of a fraud really, didn't do much rescuing at all.
