Frenchieboy
I don'y know if I am in the best section for this so if not could one of the Moderators please move this to the best section - Thanks. I am hoping that someone can help me out a bit here. I know that there is a club/organisation that arranges pigeon shooting in Yorkshire(?) where you can join and they have a list of pigeon shooting grounds available for "members". I am interested in getting more into pigeon decoying/shooting this year and will be looking for something like this. Can anyone tell me if a similar organisation exists similar to this that covers East Lancashire (Or thereabouts) as I live in Bacup and do not really want to end up travelling too far. Any info would be helpful plus what price i might expect to pay for a rotory decoy machine and maybe about 12 - 20 decoys (How many would people suggest for a novice on a tight(ish) budget) Edited January 6, 2011 by Frenchieboy
TJ91
Pack of 12 shell decoys with spring sticks new are about £25..sometimes get cheaper 1s crop up on here rotarys, i dont have a clue, dont use them here, they arent worth lugging about, the pigeons just dont seem to like them, get a couple of glider/bouncers, around £15 a piece 12 shell decoys and 2 gliders should be all you need, all the new gadgets have no place in my kit bag, if you learn how to set up correctly you will draw them in
yickdaz
are you talking about the nppc that covers a lot of ground round yorkshire a bit of land around west yorks so wouldn;t be that far from bacup;if your interested look at the website just google nppc and it will come up;but i haven;t heard of any clubs or organisations covering lancashire.and as said 12 decoys is fine to start then maybe add a floater and a rotary to your kit as you go. I have had a member very kindly contact me and talk about Pest-Rid which did raise a viable option to share transport and petrol costs but I would still be interested in looking at different options as well. Can you give me any details or a web address for the nppc please? TJ91 - Thank you for your input, maybe you could give me a better/fuller idea as to why you do not bother with/ like a rotary please? TJ91
TJ91 - Thank you for your input, maybe you could give me a better/fuller idea as to why you do not bother with/ like a rotary please? on a few permissions we have tried a couple of different rotarys in different places (my mate is into buying every new gadget that comes onto the market he has bought 2 arm 1s and 4 arm 1s with speed controllers, shorter longer arms etc) we have tried them over the last few years in all different situations, with different patterns etc the pigeons will not come anywhere near them, they seem to spook them its maybe just the area, i cant see how i can be doing it wrong if i have tried every possible way so...god only knows a few other lads who shoot round here dont use them either and find they do better without rotarys are a good invention, i can see why people think they are a must but they just dont work for me here i dont bother with flappers, peckers either, they may work well but i feel i get the birds to commit well enough with just my shell decoys and a few bouncers and on another note..i very rarely use a hide when decoying pigeons i am a big fan of taking very little out into the field (call me lazy if you want) but i am still managing 15-40bird days on the rape now and enjoyed plenty of big bags through summer Edited January 6, 2011 by TJ91
Frenchieboy
That's a fair enough answer TJ91, thanks again for the input.
here iam
Main thing Frenchie to keep still and keep yourself well concealed nought worse to scaring birds of if they can see you bobbing up and down behind a hide if you want thousands of arces to shoot nppc John shooter top guy Also regular shot at pigeons are very wary of magnets dozen shells flocked spring stick soon as you shoot one replace your shell or add to pattern you cannot beat real deeks Also make sure their facing into wind if its blowing if you drive round your area now and see where pigeons are doing damage on early rape Farmers will be begging for someone They can only say no
