Decided to give the ferret a try on a few small burrows this afternoon for his first outing. Thinking he might be a bit cautious, i netted up a burrow with only four holes. i put him in from the top, and straight away, a rabbit bolted from my right. As i was alone, it wriggled the net before i could get to it and i wanted to keep near the ferret. From the hole he entered, a large rabbit jumped into the net, and was swiftly dispatched. The ferret stuck his head out of the hole, looking up and waiting to see if he had done good. couldnt believe he bolted three on such a small burrow, and on his first attempt. :good:

Tried another two with no luck, but he worked them quick, and when he knew they were clear, he come back out and played around the entrance. Pushing my luck a bit, i netted up a bigger one and put him in. A single rabbit was tring to get out of a hole, but the ferret pulled him back down the hole and went to town on him. I sat and had a smoke for ten minutes thinking i might have to start digging, but as i stood up, i squeeked at the hole and he walked out licking the blood from his nose. :good: I have spent a few days clearing the brambles around the burrows to make things a bit easier, and it seemed to have paid off. Plenty more work needed on this land, but i dont want to push him too early. Sorry no pics, but i left the camera in the car and it started to rain by the end. Very pleased with the result, and it looks like he isgoing to be a great worker. Big thanks the Joneveo for the ferret, hes a great little thing :good:
