kip270
Well it's time to tell you about my trip downunder..... After a 12hour flight we landed in Hong Kong, what a lovely place, not very warm but better than back home that's for sure. First thing that amazed me was the size of the buildings, not that amazing you may think, but when all they use is bamboo for scafolding it is(will post some pics of that). Then it was time to find a shop selling scopes Was it me or was i in the wrong place Saw one guy selling some on a stall, but they did look dodgy, so came away scopeless After 3 days it was time to fly to Cairns.... Landed @5am and it was 30degrees and humid, the top end's wet season, and when it rained it rained, but still in shorts and t-shirt so can't complain. Whilst in Cairns we had a day trip to the rain-forest in Kuranda, the counrtyside was breathtaking, got to hold a koala, and see some spider's (so i knew what to look out for). Did you know that the only thing that can survive a nuclear bomb is a cockroach Then it was a trip to dive the Reef. Sailed out from Cairns for about 2hours, then it was time to dive. This was my first attempt at scuba diving, and it was Fab. Struggled at first, your brain is telling you not to breath becuase you are under the water and you will drown!! So after a few mins i got my breathing sorted and we were off. Giant clams at least 4ft on the coral bed, clown fish, snappers, fish everywhere, water temp 30degrees, just like being in a bath(but a whole lot bigger) No sharks though :*) That evening we went for dinner, you name it they eat it Kangaroo, croc, emu, barramundi, grubs(no chance) so it was time to try it out. Roo is bloody lovely, croc was OK (at least that one wasn't going to eat me) barra, just a fish and emu a big bird. We hired a camper van, and were driving from Cairns to Sydney over a twelve day period. Over two thousand miles, so it was time to head off. Don't want to bore people to much so will post more tales and pics in the next few weeks. Cdrom is playing up so having problems getting all my pics uploaded
Cranfield
It sounds as though you had a great trip. What a pity you didn't have much time in Hong Kong, I'm sure you would have found an excellent bargain eventually. I had a suit made there once, overnight, fit me perfectly and cost the equivalent of £40 at todays value. I look forward to seeing some more tales and the photographs.

I had a Down Under trip planned over Xmas and New Year, but other half had to go for an op so we had to cancel  We intended to hit the South East and Tasmania and leave Cairns, Reef, and Ayers Rock for another time, so keep the stories (and piccies) coming please Piebob
