FAC help

Hi all,

I put in for my FAC about 3 weeks ago, so hopefully shouldn't be long until i get a call from my feo. I would just like to know what sort of questions i will be asked by him and the appropriate answers. I imagine it will be things on the line of whats the first thing you should make sure of before taking a shot? Which my answer would be make sure theres a suitable backstop. I have applied for .17HMR and .22LR. I have heard you may be asked whats the maximum range on these two rifles? I would say what ever you feel comfortable, but for the HMR upto 150yards and for the LR 75-100 yards, am i right in thinking this. Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks Matt

The reason i need them is because the farmer has asked me to remove rabbits as they are damaging his crops and i have had to send them letters with written permission from the farmer for both the farms he wants me to shoot over, and the farmer has told me that the police have already been out to both farms to claer it before, so should be ok there. thanks for your reply, Matt

Who knows what they will ask, every FEO has their own way of doing things, you have already been vetted before the visit, the main reason for the visit is to establish you are not some sort of radical nutter and you have some idea of what you are getting into.

Generally they do not set traps and are ok, but some might, for instance the above, they are not the maximum ranges, which could easily be over a MILE, they are the generally accepted usable ranges!

Just Chill, be yourself, offer him a coffee (Don't show him your collection of 200+++ bottles of vintage Brandy) NEVER guess at anything, if he asks you a question and you don't know the answer then just say so.

Nobody knows it all (but plenty of us know more than a lot of FEO's).

ATB!

just relax i think your reading too much into it. its not a job interview. just be yourself. i was not asked any questions about handling firearms. just had to sign a bit of paper saying i promise to be sensible, or words to that effect. he was in and out in 10 mins

The anticipation of "the visit" is always worse than the visit itself. You have a justified use for the rifles and land to use them on. With a clean criminal record and a decent cabinet you're pretty much sorted and the visit is more of a formality than a spanish inquisition.

Maximum range either bullet will actually fly is much further than the distance you would ever dare try and shoot something at but for useable range I'd say 60-80 for LR and 120-140 HMR but in either case it's the distance that YOU can confidently and consistantly hit a 1" target.

Exactly the same as my sgc/fac interviews both were over in less than 10 mins. Checked the cabinet for sgc didn't bother checking for fac even though it was a different feo and a different cabinet. Not all interviews are as strict or as scary as some people think they are going to be. Dont worry be yourself and good luck with it. :good:
