bindi
Can anyone tell me how to overcome excessive dieseling on a newly acquired (but secondhand) air rifle. thanks bindi Edited March 7, 2006 by bindi

Axe
Strip it down and clean out the oil before it damages the rifle. If its 12ft/lb also be careful that the combusting oil doesnt put your pellets over the limit.
SNAKEBITE
I would try cleaning the barrell with a pull through then dry it out. Failing that strip it down and make sure nothing lubricating is going into the tranfer port.

bindi
Thanks Lads, I was hoping to avoid having to strip it down, but its now looking like thats whats needs. The barrel is fine so it must be some oil in the chamber, cheers bindi Edited March 7, 2006 by bindi
coupe312
try a carefull wash with petrol to degress and let it air loads before using. often last user getting silly with lubes
Axe
I wouldnt go with petrol if its an old rifle with a leather piston washer. It ill dry it out which is the last thing you want.
Riothedog
You might not want to be compressing petrol either! But I know what he means. Piston out, clean cylinder. Keep all lubricant behind the washer. RTD
bindi
cheers, its not a leather washer so I might give it a little whirl with a spot of petrol to see how it goes (BANG) and then failling that do the complete strip down, which I am now feling more confident about doing, Have i got this right, cock the gun to compress the spring, pour in a bit of petrol to the transfer port, shake up and own to dislove the grease or oil in the chamber and then pour out, letting thoroughly dry before trying with a pellet?? I don't want a big scary bang! and if that doesn't do it then I'll strip it all down. thanks bindi Edited March 8, 2006 by bindi
ROB REYNOLDS UK
IF I WAS YOU JUST FIRE IT OF A FEW TIMES TO CLEAN IT OUT ,but make sure it has a plellet it the rifle ,whats happened there is some one has put oil down the barrel and stud it up so the oil has got in to the gun ...dont do it again
Axe
As simple as it sounds I certainly wouldnt attempt it. Petrol is very thin and might penetrate past the washer. If that happens, it could dissolve the wanted lubricant on your piston and spring. Not too mention the obvious dangers of petrol vapours in confined spaces! Your best option is always going to be stripping it down and servicing the rifle properly. You could tune her up properly at the same time and it will give you peace of mind. If you cut corners, in time, you will pay for it. Just my opinion.
SNAKEBITE
Have a look with your cigarette lighter to see if all the petrol has gone....... I think you are better off not using petrol to be honest.
