Alliant Bullseye

Recommended Posts

I've read a couple of threads on 12 gauge loads using Bullseye pistol powder.

As I have unearthed a few pounds of it I was keen to find out how people got on with it.

Oh and before some of you start to give me warnings I was thinking of a smidgen of Bullseye and 1oz of the black round stuff

bullseye is way faster than vectan AS, so should give high pressure slower speeds (1oz lead load)

it is awsome for light loads, it shoots them fast.

another very similar powder is hodgdon titewad. it is extremely usefull, i load 12g subsonic 32g lead loads, it is amazingly clean (normal pressure loads.)

it will burn at low pressure, it gives poor speed with 32g loads. (with pressure !)

cook.

Don't trust any loading data you get off forums for using bullseye in shotgun cartridges. Its very fast burning and if the makers don't recommend it there is a reason.

The makers say it is principally a handgun powder but can be used for "12 Gauge Light Target Loads"

taken from the 2004 Alliant Reloaders Guide.

I just wondered if anyone had tried it.

At your service!

The only load I can find is from a 2nd edition of the ClayGame Catalogue: Circa 1991

It is listed under '12 gauge: For 2" guns' (I think Ian meant 2" chambered guns!)

The cartridge case ('hull' - I hate that word!) is 52mm,

The primer is a CCI 209,

The charge is 18 grains.

The wad system is a plastic obturator (or 'gas seal' - I hate that word!) and 1/2" (12.5mm) fibre wad.

The shot load is 7/8ounce (24.85gram)

Closed with a card and rolled turnover.
