ian_in_the_midlands
Update: Added neoprene cover - made no difference. Added flip up covers - do what they are suppost to do, but not high enough to mask the light so again no difference. Masked off bottom of lamp - problem gone . Looking at the setup again I think I understand what is happening better. The light from the reflector is not causing the problem as this is focussed and going over the top of the moderator. The light causing the problem is directly from the bulb. This is the reason I suspect why car headlights have the shade infront of the bulb, or sometimes built in. Are replacement bulbs for lightforce lamps available with the front darkened like car headlight bulbs? Thanks all for help and ideas. Dekers
Went for sunshade fix, but also taped a piece of flexible but stiff thin plastic (about 6" wide and 8" long) around the bottom of the 170 on the front flat rim. Admit it looks silly but this really works especially if you also have a stainless barrel and besides, I only shoot from th truck cab roof. All the above is good and all the stuff others have mentioned. Other alternatives include.... chopping the barrel shorter, getting a differnt mod, getting a different lamp, The problem will usually be solved with the scope sunshade, mod cover or blanking off the bottom of the lamp!
