the running man
I'd go £50 or £100 to charity on that. I would go the £1k but I might feel bad taking your money. Obviously, to replicate the hare claim, it would have to be a distance randomly selected on the day between 700 and 1000 yards (to stop anyone setting up for the shot the day before), and it would be 1 shot from cold, and 1 shot only. No setting up, no practice, nothing. wymberly and mugler, thanks for ure kind note. as for this long range test thing,we could be onto something here,£5 each to charity or a pool, could be a right laugh!!! jay222
whilst i think the 704yd original poster was a total bs'er shots at that range can be done (not with my ability i might add) i have seen a guy fairly local to me shooting at long range with a .22br with very consistant results

Kes
One shot slightly less celebrated than the 704 yd hare was the fabled Russian Sniper Vasilly Zeitsef, who shot a german officer (reputedly in the head) at 1000 metres across a river in Stalingrad whilst he was having a shower - the target not the shooter. Our renowmed colleague could perhaps have done with a cold shower after exciting his imagination for the hare shot. Makes the 1000 yd egg look rather hard (boiled that is). Frenchieboy
That 1000 yard egg shot should be a doddle for the 704 yard hare shooter, I have every confidence in him! All you have to do is paint a picture of "Buggs Bunny" on the egg and there you go, at 1000 yards it will look so muck like a hear he will be able to replicate his shot and steal your money straight from your grubby little hands - Who will have egg on their faces then guys? gixer1
Agree with Mungler - after watching the Marine snipers, alot of what is quoted is balls. Those guys were struggling, and look at the size of the targets they were shooting at - We must have some top talent around the forums with claims made, that programme put things into perspective for Me! That Sam fella is barely worth talking about - complete BS'er The above was exactly my point in a topic many moons ago about shooting a fox at 500 yards plus in a "blowing gale" that someone on here claimed, did you see how those marine snipers struggled on the targets with wind and at that distance??? from 500 - 1000 there were misses and at 1000 there were qhuite a few hitting the last 2" of a 6ft target, and they are using spotters with wind adjustment charts and wind socks on range and are trained to make the shots count, i believe every now and again some people make a shot that is extremely impressive, great- but this long range hero stuff is BS, no one should require to shoot at those distances on live targets, if you cant get closer than 500 yards are you wearing a coco the clown outfit for shooting?? i rarely shoot anything over 150 yards with a 243 as there simply is not a need for itbeyond 150-200, if there are going to be reason given of "lamp shy foxes" - be careful as you may not know what may be behind that fox if you miss in the dark at 350 yards, we have been out with the lamp and had joggers in dark clothing run past! it wakes you up! keep the long range for the paper/targets....anyone who has that "i've just lost that deer" feeling in the pit of your stomach will know what i mean when i say it is a horrible feeling, although i have always been lucky enough to find them within 6o-70 yards of the shot it still feels awful when walking around in bracken searching! and i'm sure eventually i may loose one but i hope not! the poster on here and the SD is a nugget, plain and simple, i hope someone tells him so in person or he tells some fable to an FEO and has his ticket revoked - next time you are out take a hare sized target to 700 yards and have a look at it through a scope...you will laugh when you see it and think - he's having a giraffe.... EDIT - well done you for the apology too.... Regards, Gixer Edited February 22, 2011 by gixer1
