TJ91
Got a call last night from a local farmer, he told me he has pigeons hammering his rape i popped downa t first light, got sat under a 'sitty' tree in the middle of the field they used to use alot. chucked out a few decoys and waited. it wasnt long before the first birds started to move and i bagged a couple that came straight in. knocked a couple more who attempted to land in the tree above me and missed a few that were just passing. i saw a great load lift up from over the brow of the hill and head back to a woods, a couple curled from the pack and dropped in, got a nice right n a left. anyway, afetr a couple hours of pigeons dropping in allover the field i packed up to go to work :( i picked up all 26 i had shot. when i was collecting them i noticed a few rotten potatoes on the surface i opened up the crops of a few of the pigeons and sure enough they had been munching on the spuds with very few rape leaves in a couple of the crops this i didnt find strange, i often see them hitting old spud fiels rather than rape... what i found weird was the fact that the farmer had drilled rape after a cro pof spuds..never seen this before...has anyone else? i always thought they grew wheat or barley after!? Blackpowder
Not sure about crop rotation but pigeon seem very fond of potato stubble and rotten spuds at this time of year. Blackpowder
