Mooch
Maybe in the wrong section of the forums but I am sure it will be moved if this is the case. I am looking to ask some of the local farmers for permission to shoot targets (not quarry). Best way to go about this? Reason behind this is the lack of shooting opportunities I have. I live in a very built up area and none of the families property or mine is suitable for shooting. Many of the clubs have a waiting list for membership also. I am looking to get insurance before I go speak to them (Any good insurance groups would be great too ). What is the best way to approach them? Face to face versus a telephone call? Thanks in advance
artschool
i dont think this is ever allowed. you can zero on land but target shooting requires a approved range.

This is for an Air Rifle. Not sure if this changes anything
CZ550Kevlar
Conditions of a FAC is either zeroing on land cleared etc OR shooting on approved ranges. EDIT- Just noticed your air rifle update, i think you`ll have your work cut out, not many farmers will let you go plinking. i would say face to face and expect alot of rejections and possible abuse. Dave 101
Target shooting can only take place on approved ranges , any land you have permission to shoot on will be for the quary as on your FAC as a condition and zeroing if you have a condition for that as well . Ranges have to have large safety areas behind the backstop , plus the insurance which a company wouldnt give you unless its a homeoffice approved range , they cant take the risk of you killling someone , planning permission , noise is also a factor to be considered . If only it was like the US where there are large open spaces to shoot on public land . Dave

It is possible though? Just going to be a task finding someone I guess. I like a good challenge though, I wouldn't be with the missus if I didn't . @Dave101. I stayed in the states for a week before, Pennsylvania to be precise, had a go at shooting automatic hand guns, revolvers and some rifles! Best week of my life except for the one shot with the revolver that I forgot my ear defenders :(
artschool
mooch, you could always look around for a empty warehouse and ask the owners permission or find someone with a large back garden. for what its worth you would probably be best just looking for straight pest control as its alot simpler for people to understand. Good idea, still new to this so all the advice is fantastic. It's obviously not as simple as many think, plenty of rules and laws to abide by too. HDAV
Where are you there are plenty of small air rifle HFT clubs that use a farmers field or similar but many aren't publicised I used to shoot at one as a lad that used a church hall in winter and field in summer! In Castleford, near Leeds/Wakefield (West Yorkshire). Still going through the process of contacting local clubs but there is wait list as I mentioned above and I am eager to get some practice in . If nothing turns up locally I will have to drive further out.
