ack-ack
Had a session over HW last week during the moderate SW'ly. I was presenting lush coctail baits between 50 and 120 yds and I didn't even get a knock. I know its generally quiet at this time but I expected a few Dab or a dingaling at least. Anybody fairing better?
mpk
Tbh have not even bothered here yet, as it starts to warm up I'll have a punt at a few favourite spots. The fishing has just got worse on the south coast over the years. Don't know if you experience the same were you are ?

I had one Codling last October that was about the size of a kitchen spatula and hardly any Dab. I could almost garantee that a basic paternoster on size 1s at 60-100 yd throughout January would have me taking half a bucket home when conditions were right. I've had about a dozen all winter and none above legal size. The summer fishing has gone a bit weird also, I gave up mackerelling after slooging away for hours for odd fish yet last season I've never caught so many Bass in my life. Probably only half a dozen keepers but they were queing up. I'm going to give the mullet a bit more time and effort this year. Might even catch one! The Mackeral were definatly strange last summer, I dont do a lot of seafishing but normally manage a good few off the Marina to fill the freezer with pike bait and my stomach with smokies, but last year hardly managed any. We couldnt even find any when sharking out of Penzance which was very, very strange indeed, but like you said the beaches down there seemed paved in Bass. Cranfield
Its a quiet time of year for shore fishing around the Kent coast, the boats are getting nice rays and a few codling, but its a month or so before the shore livens up. mpk
It's nice how the fishing starts as the birds are breeding, gives you something else to do
ack-ack
It's nice how the fishing starts as the birds are breeding, gives you something else to do ...and theres always the veg patch to sort out which overlaps the two nicely. You've always got an excuse to be outdoors.

I was going to put the longlines out for the big tides this weekend as they are banned at the end of March but I really don't think its worth the fuss. I might just head off round the rocks and get some big mussels. Had some belters last month, the sea was like soup and they were inches off the mud. Thought they were going to be a bit gritty but they were spot on, nothing come out when I purged them either.
