Doc Holliday
Our Collie x Staff is very intelligent & I've been thinking about trying some whistle training with her. I feel she wants to do more than just run after the ball at times, plus she is a quick learner, even though she is now 6. She definately pays an interest if there's a whistle on TV or even if we're out somewhere and other folk are using whistles with their dogs so have decided to take the plunge. I've had a look on here but had to resort to google to find out some simple/basic commands. Before I start the training with her I just want to be sure that these are universal or if not perhaps someone could correct me: RECALL - 3 long whistles (not sure how long though) STOP - 1 Long Whistle TURN (using a hand signal I assume) - 2 Short whistles I'd appreciate confirmation of whistle lengths & if there are any other signals that are used I'd be grateful to learn of them. Regards, Doc.
FalconFN
I don't think it matters too much what whistles you use as long as your consistent. I have a 9 month old cocker and I use 1 long for stop, 2 short (or 2 mouth clicks is she's close) to change direction and 5 or so short whistls in quick succession to bring her back. I also use a quick 'pip' to send her out to retreive.
