Lo Gents,

I'm after some users to let me know what they think of the Cluson Shootalite S2 Kit.

A few guys I know use various rifle mounted Lightforce 140/170's and the Tiablo's (not too keen on the white light from these *******) etc.

However, I was interested in something different and like the look of the the s2 kit for solo lamping. Scan the fields with hand held lamp then clip onto scope mount for finishing touches :D

The S2, according to the specs, seems to give a better range/output than the handy wee Masterlite supreme for the .223 use for foxing.

Anway, basically after some input from anyone using the S2 plesae, good or bad!!

Cheers

Hello mate, i bought a cluson shootalite sl2 a couple of weeks ago. Mine has got the 50watt bulb in. You can get the less powerful one with the 20watt bulb in as well. I used the lamp last week for the first time and the lamp without the red filter on throws a beam i would say close to the claimed 1000yds. With the red filter on obviously the beam is reduced considerably but i would say again that the usable beam is 200-250yds,possibly 300yds at a push. The lamp comes with a universal scope mount which will fit either 25mm or 30mm tubes. This was something that i was looking for as i can swap the lamp between the HMR which has a 30mm tube and the 22lr which has a 25mm tube. The mount on the lamp body has a ball and socket type affair so adjustment is quick and efficient

The beam can be adjusted from flood to spot via a turn screw at the rear of the lamp head, unfortunately there is no dimmer facility which is my only gripe. You can also use the lamp as a hand held and it also attaches to the battery pack as well.

Included in the kit is a mains charger and a vehicle charger, scope mount, battery in a hard case with a handle and leads.

I looked around for sometime for a suitable lamp and the shootalite seemed to fit my needs the best. Having used the lamp only once i know its still early days but on the face of things i think it will serve me well. It seems well made and is quite light which does'nt seem to affect the balance or handling of the rifle at all.

The best price i could find was from Mole Valley Farmers (google it} Lamp was £107 and the filter was About £10.50. I phoned the order in and there were great to deal with but you can order directly online. I hope this little review is of some help but like i say i have only used the lamp once but the performance does seem more than adequate :good: .

I have one for Rabbiting, I also have a hand held 170. The SL2 is good VFM but make sure you get the mount you want when you buy it as they are not interchangeable and quite dear for a spare. The mount is however alot easier to use and detach than the LF mount (I used to have a scope mounted 170 but found it too big and noisy). The beam is not as strong as a 170 but its still plenty good for target recoginition at 175 - 200 yards and eye reflections alot further. Very compact compared to the 170 and that is what sold it to me, I only use mine for Rabbits like I say because I prefer Foxing in two's. Overall I am very happy with mine but if you want to shoot Foxes past 200 yards I would say it is not the one for you, under that and no problems.

Seeing the previous response I have had mine 2 years or so so maybe they have sorted the mount now but worth checking.

I have had one for a couple of years and I think its a great piece of kit, not only lamping but diy on house and car. Its self held in the battery case with a swivel joint, ideal for jobs under the sink.

Cluson are a good company and really helpful, I have adapted mine for 20watt or 50watt by changing the bulb holder, spares are readibly available.Mainly use the 20watt as find its plenty for the .22lr and hmr. I find that clamping the lamp to the underside of the barrel on the .22lr and hmr gets rid of any mod glare. It has not given me any trouble, no broken wires or bad connections and is still on the same battery, always make sure its fully charged and it will last ages. Going to try the orange lens with 50watt bulb this weekend for a bit of variety with the rabbits.
