zipdog
As above i have a rifle in mind but it comes with a 24 inch barrel and also not screw cut, i wanted it screw cut for a moderator and i feel the barrel is just too long. I plan to get my rifle from york guns, does anyone have any experiences of the quality of the work done there regarding this and how much it would cost. many thanks
casts_by_fly
They were expensive when I had my 22 done. I think they wanted £150 for it since they dont' do the work themselves and would also require it be reproofed. I went to steve Kershaw instead, not far down the road in Howden. He was half the price and had it in a couple days. His work is top notch of course as others will comment. Thanks Rick
NickP
Dont know about them doing modifications but I was looking to buy, their prices were sky high compared to others, when I pointed out they was £125 more he knocked £20 off I guess their overheads are higher than others, shames as the guys customer skills was ok an gave lots of advice
fortune82
I would avoid them. Expensive and they just farm it out to someone else. Try Kershaw or W richards in Pocklington.
Jaguar Warrior
I bought my CZ453 from S yorks shooting supplies (rimfire magic). I was told they had done hundreds and were well tooled up for the job. Shortened and screwcut the barrel for £60 about 3 yrs ago. Very pleased with the job. Highly recommended. See the thread about a bad screwcut thread a few days a go. Not a job for the local gunsmith imho.
casts_by_fly
jag warrior, I agree with what you're saying, but just to be clear, Steve K and Pocklington guns, aren't just your 'local gunsmith' as you're connoting. They just happen to be local to me though. Thanks, rick
fortune82
jag warrior, I agree with what you're saying, but just to be clear, Steve K and Pocklington guns, aren't just your 'local gunsmith' as you're connoting. They just happen to be local to me though. Thanks, rick Could'nt agree more. Kershaw is a custom rifle builder and W Richards hand makes side lock shotguns. W Richards has made parts for a shotgun of mine from scratch and the work is totally flawless.
DaveK
Steve Kershaw at Howden. A perfectionist who won't charge an arm and a leg and with a very fast turnaround. He's the only gunsmith (well - precision engineer really) I'll let touch any of my rifles. Makes a nice cup of coffee as well. http://www.stevekershawfirearms.co.uk/ Edited April 10, 2011 by DaveK
