NorfolkPoacher
I was using hushpower 20ga in 5 shot, pretty quiet but seem a little soft hitting on bunnies and slow on pigeons.I have now switched back to standard 20ga 6's which are loads better just a fraction louder which is compromise I'm happy to make. sitsinhedges
Just in from lamping with my 20g Husher. Had 7 rabbits with my homeloads and they are half the price of the rubbish factory stuff. I have had rabbits in particular run from a charge of subsonic 7 1/2s only to keel over 50yds away and on inspection they have had a direct hit by several pellets that are stuck in the fur. With subsonics you really need to go a size or two bigger to maintain power so 5s or 6s are the best. I'm using 28 gram of 6s at the mo because that is what I have loaded and they kill lamped rabbits well at around 1000 fps. I also do an uprated version for pigeon decoying that is a match for a standard cartridge and is powerful enough to cycle my auto aswell. Little bit noisier but worth it sometimes. Atb Dave Completely agree with this post. Using my trusty chronograph I found Gamebore Traditional Game 28gram 6s weren't actually that fast, and is probably why they feel so mild on the shoulder. I think they would be a brilliant compromise and easy to get hold of. Fibre wad too aren't they
Guest cookoff013
With subsonics you really need to go a size or two bigger to maintain power so 5s or 6s are the best. yep totally agree 1000% although `m more used to 12g subs, but not in moderated shotguns. i would say 5s are the minimum. dont forget the shot has lost 1/4 its powder already compared to normal catridges. larger shotsize is better. never be put off by them give them a go. when you start rolling your own, then the fun starts. manufacturers have limited shotsizes when subs are concerned, because the demand is low and the applications are limited. they just use up some 6 shot they have lying around and push out a million subs at a time. get a loader, some #4 and have a quiet blast. Fibre wad too aren't they yes so do I used the 410 for a long time in places I couldnot take a rimfire forlongs were so quiet but were useless on rabbits they always ran on. the 21/2" winchester superX had a slight crack to the report but were killers I think the key with these hushpowers is to be happy with a noise reduction to many people think there going to achieve total silence and still kill game at 40yds and they will not Edited April 7, 2011 by UK fowler
