Twelver
Hi there, just wondered what PW members think of this one. A mate of mate gets PAID to shoot Pigeons on a large estate in Bedfordshire (nice work eh??) however he is not allowed to use decoys as the landowner believes that using them continues to attract the birds to the crop after the shooting has stopped and actually makes the crop damage worse! Apparantley he doesnt argue the case as hes getting paid and its regular work. Interesting view tho just wondered anybody else heard that one before?? Cheers Twelver. Billy.
So, is he saying that once you've shot a pigeon, you can't put it out as a decoy? I can't imagine the bags are ever that big when anyone shoots on his land.

Hi must admit I didt ask that!!I did question my mate whos known this chap for ages and also shoots himself but isnt a Pigeon shooter. It came up in conversation at work as I was saying that i shot 28 pigeons last week and my mate asked if i was alowed to decoy. Must admit does seem a bit strange, I dont think it will catch on! dougall
Twelver, Pigeons stay fairly local, most folk don't think they move more than 4-5 miles. So they will go where there is food on their 'patch'.If mates farm has crops they will find it.The reason decoys are used is attract those BIRDS THAT ALREADY there to within shotgun range. So I do find the premise of your mates 'dilemma' a bit misplaced. It is also a bit weird that a 'professional' pigeon shooter does not know this too...
