Wellingtons

Hi All,

just wonder what peoples opinion is on spending big bucks on good Wellingtons, I tend to wear good waking boots more often when out, but a mate reckons I gotta join the Green Wellie brigade ! Only joking, but then was looking on ebay and thought wow, these are more expensive than the Dunlops that I got from Millets, just wonder if it is worth spending all that money, when rubber only has a finite life, I thought of say 5 years, before it starts to crack, or is that just cheap ones? How is it best to keep them, and what treatment is needed to make them last ? Years ago I was given a pair of old Hunters, put them in the garage and when I finally got them out they had started to crumble, we were also told to change the wheels on our caravan every five years, even if they look good because of the rubber perishing.

I got my first pair of real wellies last year after using work issued ones and bought Hoggs for £45 - used them the other day in all that heat while pressure washing patio - although they keep feet warm in winter my feet never got hot or uncomfortable in heat.- I class them as one of my better purchases

I've got a pair of Le Chameau Chasseur Anniversary. I would never have spent the £300 for them when they were new, 2 years ago. But I got them at a bargain price of about £40, all legit!

They are bloody fantastic boots, really comfortable, light, warm in the winter, cool in the spring/autumn.

I wear my stalking boots in the snow though as the leather lining isn't as warm as neoprene.

When they die, and they do die no mater how much they cost, I'll probably replace them with the slightly cheaper vierzonord's and just keep them for winter.

Word of warning, animal dung, e.g. cow, sheep dung etc. will destroy the rubber, so always wash them off if you are on a farm.

I would never buy Hunter again as the two pairs before my Chammys both failed with in a couple of months.

Stick to Le Chameau or Aigle in my opinion, you get what you pay for.

Neroprene lined ones of some sort :good: ive got the Le Chameau Vierzonord and my dad has the same. He has had his for 6 years and not a crack, split or whole in sight. Well apart from the one he got in them a few days after he bought them but a bit of tractor tyre repair stuff did the trick (for 6 years!) i only got mine just after christmas but i tell you, if you will be out in the cold alot buy some decent ones! I totaly reccomend these as they are the cheaper end of the Chameau range but in my opinion you wont need anything better unless your going to the artic circle! ;)

I wear buck boots made by buckler, neoprene lined with the top the same so can be rolled down if desired. Can honestly say they are the most comfortable boots I have worn, even better than my work boots and they cost me loads!

I was unsure as I absolutely hate wellies but the neoprene top keeps them a good fit unlike the wellies that flop back and forth as you walk! They are very similar to the muck boots as someone else suggested but a little cheaper I think.

If you want to go a little cheaper than top end I would get some Muck boots, I got mine for £54 from Uttings on one of their online deals plus postage. I have the camo ones and its like wearing you slippers out on a stalk, cracking.

Another vote for Muck boots here, they are ridiculously comfy to wear !
