andy the plumber
Shot 50 today, and at about no 30ish, started getting a very sore cheek bone, which, obviously was accentuated by the recoil, could this be a gun fit issue ? Has anyone else had this, and if so, how did you cure it ? Had the gun about 6 months, and this is the first time I've felt it. It may be relevant, but I was shooting DTL for the first time
bakerboy
Are you lifting your face off the stock to find the target? This is a no no. You must keep a tight pressure between your face/cheek and the stock.
Radar_uk
When I was trying to get my gun mount sorted I got into a bad habit of lifting my head from the stock after the first shot and that was when I started to get similar sore cheek/bruising as to what you're describing, like Bakerboy says keep your cheek on the stock. scuta
A couple of years ago, I started to suffer from the same. The only thing that I could put it down to was that I was mounting differently (ie more deliberately) than I do for sporting or skeet (shoot both with gun just out of the shoulder) I found that a smear of Vaseline on my cheek worked wonders - I do get some amused comments - but no more bruises
Spiderdude
I had this in my first lesson, it was due to me having the gun pressed too firm to my cheek.
apache
when it's warm and you shoot in less clothes it can alter fit quite significantly.
andy the plumber
Some very valid points, thanks. I did in fact shoot in a t shirt, as opposed to a skeet vest today, Also, because it was DTL, I could well have been lifting my head when using the second barrell. (I normally shoot sporting, so as such, don't often begin with the gun mounted) Think I may go down the route of getting someone to video me, and see if there are any obvious clues, that is if this happens after my next round of sporting. Thanks again all Andy
COACH
The most likely cause is the gun fit. A Sporter/game guns stock is set up different to a trap gun. If you push your face hard into a sporter stock to get down and see the right picture, because the stock climbs up hill shall we say from the butt, it will kick you in the cheek as recoil sends the gun backwards. Its worse on some guns than others.
