Gnome of the Woods
If I wanted to have a part repaired or say the barrels reblued, can I send the parts in the post? Or do the major components like barrels have to be sent RFD? Thanks, Paul

welshwarrior
You can sendthem by TNT for repairs or work not sure about new parts tho.
RichardH
Thats an awkward question. Component parts for shotguns are actually uncontrolled unlike S1 parts which is why a spare shotgun barrel shouldnt be on your certificate even thouh some forces like to add them. On that basis you "should" be able to post individual parts fairly freely, personally for the potential grief involved if anything happens to it or it gets opened I would stick with having an RFD post it. Pretty much anyone doing blacking or repairs would have to be an RFD anyway to actually do the ork Richard
PigeonEater
as long as the gun is on your license you can post anywhere for repair. However, the repaired item usally needs to be shipped back to an RFD and not directly to yourself.
HDAV
Most gunsmiths use a secure TNT service I believe they can arrange collection and return to cert holder address only if the cert holder is home, may need to show cert ( fax a copy in advance) best speak to the smith doing the work. There was a long thread about barrels which can/could be posted IIRC, but I certainly wouldn't send my barrels through the post!
