Dogs and ticks

Just found another tick on my dog somehow I missed the last one and it was a begun.

Been looking up on lymes disease and think that it can be passed onto dogs and it attacks the dogs kidneys. Does the jags that you get them does it guard them against lymes?

He has a tic coller on him and put some spot on him 2 weeks ago but being a labrador he went swimming in the river 4 hours after application.

Hate the things my area is infested with them up here due to all the deer and bracken. I try and only go were the grass is short or take him to the loch for a swim.

Thanks

Yes ticks CAN carry nasty diseases, but in spite of living in tick infested countryside all my life, and having had dogs walking, hunting and working this self same countryside all my life I have never yet had one, or even heard of one, which has come down with any disease passed to it by a tick.

Exactly how common are these diseases?

I use Frontline Combo monthly on mine from April until October. I have found that used monthly ticks don't latch on, leave it nearer 2 months and they latch but shrivel up and die within 24 hours.

I've got to say I don't get unduly worried about them :/
