cooter
It helps to smooth out the barrel evenly, and IME it does work. Shoot the following as a minimum. 1 shot, then clean with a rod and oily patch oil, then dry patch 1 shot, then clean with a rod and oily patch oil, then dry patch 2 shot, then clean with a rod and oily patch oil, then dry patch 2 shot, then clean with a rod and oily patch oil, then dry patch 3 shot, then clean with a rod and oily patch oil, then dry patch 3 shot, then clean with a rod and oily patch oil, then dry patch 4 shot, then clean with a rod and oily patch oil, then dry patch 4 shot, then clean with a rod and oily patch oil, then dry patch Let the barrel cool down between shots, which is easy as you are cleaning it early on. There are some good articles on 6mmbr about this. There is an article here which goes into more detail. http://www.hps-tr.com/guidance/barrel_runningIn.asp and this one from Border Barrels gives reasons why http://www.border-barrels.com/articles/shoot-in.htm Edited April 28, 2011 by cooter

Dekers
I have followed a fairly rigorous running in process with all my rifles, even the .22lr's. Simple fact is ALL my rifles shoot, and with the likes of CHEAP ammo too, much to the amazement of many. I'm very happy, plenty don't bother, such is life!
