Sprinter Posted May 2, 2011 Report Share Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) Common answers will vary between 1 - 4 sq metres per poult. After doing a quick calculation we are at 4msq/bird in our main release pens and in one case 9msq/bird. Other temporary pens for very small numbers of birds (20-25)are more like 0.75msq/bird, however these pens will be watched like hawks for any issues (feather pecking/other bullying and disease) and offending birds will be booted out of the pen early or treated accordingly. scolopax Posted May 3, 2011 Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 Alot depends on how much ground cover there is in the pen etc if its full of bramble, braken etc then maybe squeeze in 50 but more realistically 30 to 40. decoy1979 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 As said number of birds will vary dependent on cover and possibly location, are birds likely to be drawn away by other food sources soon after release? Some more info would be good and allow for a more accurate assessment of requirements such as, when and at what age are you looking to release?
