Peas 'chitting'

Hi gang! At last 2 of my farmers have got their peas in so I can give up the OSR which has been a bit of a lost cause ie I hit a few then they fly off to another field e.g. I got 14 (for 26 shots) in an hour last week (mid-day), then nothing for the next hour, so I packed up. Anyway, my question; a chap who shoots the same land as me says the peas have been put in deep and we wont get any shooting till they start to 'chit' (put small shoots up). How long does this take? I've got a few days leave owed so I'm trying to work out when to take them. Cheers and good shooting, Axel. PS Looking forward to the East Anglian Game Fair!

PS Thanks for your replies, as usual PW 'surfers' have the info at their fingers tips, cheers. Axel. PPS Has anyone brought shells recently (I use Express 28gm, 6's for the decoying), has the price gone up yet? Axel

Axel,

It all depends on soil temperature and moisture content.

If it's warm and wet, they should chit in about 10 days (approx), if it's colder and drier, it will take longer.

Pigeons will feed on Peas from as soon as they're drilled to way after harvest, but it can be a bit patchy, all depends on what other food there is to feed on.

Cat.
