bullet tooth tony
Thanks for the advice. I sometimes go for a head or a neck shot if it is a dead cert, Just to preserve the rest of the carcass, the 270 can be a bit messy. I have never taken a jaw out before but yesterday just proves that it could go horribly wrong. [experiance gained] Where are your preferred targets [broad side] I will be having ago at papper before I go any where near a wood
miffy
Head and neck shots for me are only ever taken if necessary and only if rested on a solid object. You should make yourself familiar with the anatomy of a deer so that heart/lung shots can be taken at a varying degree of angles, and even when the deer is head on. Just make sure your rifle is properly zeroed bvefore shooting at deer again
henry d
BTT - You`re having a laugh aren`t you............. How do you know you didn`t hit a non vital area,jaw/nose/larynx/nape?? I think you need to get on a range and don`t stray from there until you can do the necessary for the animal you intend to kill. PS a 270 at that range will hardly damamge the carcase anyway. As for"I have never taken a jaw out before but yesterday "I will leave you to answer that. NAHB
