kevmag
Have a .22 at the minute and i'm just after finishing a deer stalking course. So i'll be upgrading to a bigger rifle. Can anyone point me in right direction for a good rifle and scope and also prices you think i should spent.
Harnser
If you mean a center fire rifle for deer stalking then you should be looking at a .243 ..270 or the most versatile caliber of them all , the very venerable .308 . It will of course depend on where you are going to shoot it . The land that you shoot over will have to be passed as safe to shoot over for your caliber choice by your local constabulary . Harnser . The above dosen't apply if you intend to get the rifle for paid stalking.
Harnser
When you apply for a variation for a centre fire rifle your local constabulary will want to know were you are going to use it . If the land has not been checked out for that calibre then you will have to get them to do so . Harnser .

As your on the other side of the water you need to be thinking 25-06, 6.5, 270, 7mm or 30 cal. .243" is maybee the most versitile calibre in the way of doing anything short of boar over here, but in ireland you have no real amount of smaller deer Roe etc. so a bigger cal is better. not sure on prices and availability over there but spend as much or more on the scope, most off the shelf new rifles will shoot good enough but a bad scope is a liability. think s+bender, leupold etc.
