poacher boy
Maybe not Irish by birth but surely someone in your family must be! Why I’m even bothering to explain this is beyond me…I must be bored today! The law in the UK has recently been changed (well 2007) to allow the use of .223 on Muntjac and Chinese Water Deer ONLY. As these species are only present in (for the sake of argument) the southern and eastern parts of ENGLAND that’s where you’d have to go to shoot one. I thought I might have been wrong in saying Scotland for Roe as under Scottish law it’s bullet weight/velocity that determines what you can (legally) shoot and I don’t think .223 comes up to scratch. I don’t know for sure and I’m not about to spend time looking it up however Mark Robson has just confirmed it’s OK so that’s good enough for me! My thoughts are still, why would you buy a rifle in a caliber that’s useful for fox shooting BUT not much use (or generally legal) for deer shooting and then think about going deer stalking so far from home? Wrong again none of family Irish You were wrong about Scotland Recently changed 2007 (2011) The rifle is for fox but i would like to try for deer, thats not to hard to understand even for you? Its like when you buy a shotgun do you just use it for rabbits & pigeons or can you use it for fox, duck pheasant etc vermin & game. And as you see from Marks post people do travel, it would take me 40mins in a plane to get over to Scotland I am sure people travel longer than that to there permissions So if you don't know don't guess

al4x
the problem people have is believing you have a deer condition on a rifle you can't use for deer where you live, did you have to do the DCS1 to get the condition. You can use a .223 on muntjac and CWD which are mostly present in southern England and on Roe in Scotland, yes you can get to Scotland but your 40mins entails flying with a couple of airlines not famous for carrying guns. In the real world you would be better getting a variation for a .243 etc that you can use on deer species local to you

I have a .223 which i got for fox i would now like to see if possible if i could go somewhere in Scotland or England to shoot deer and pay the going rate, i was telling people what rifle i had to shoot deer in case it was illegal but i see from posts including yours i can. Also if not able to shoot i am happy to watch, I don't have a DSC1 and we don't have conditions over here.
