Wildfowler12
Hello. I'm about to buy some new decoys to use alongside my current mallard decoys. I want to put some other duck species out with my pattern, maybe buy some widgeon or some teal deeks. I've been told this may attract more than 1 species? The marsh I shoot on has plenty of mallard, teal, widgeon, pochard and pintail. There is also the occasional gadwall. I've had most success on teal and widgeon, with that in mind, Can any of you advise me which deeks will be best to add to my pattern? shakin stevens
unless your doing a bit of tide flighting in the day buy a few wigeon and teal, teal are easey to carry, other than that your mallard work fine, ducks in half light should come into most deeks. Wildfowler12
Thanks, I've got some Canada geese FUDs and I'm pritty impressed with them. So I will probably buy some wigeon FUDs to put out with the mallard. I thought widgeon deeks would be my best bet as I wasn't sure widgeon/mallard would come into teal deeks? scolopax
Kev at Tidepool (google it) is doing a fantastic deal on wigeon decoys at the moment. £15 for six hen wigeon, they are GHG which are the best make by some way. Unfortunaely all he has currently are the hens but personally these are what I prefer anyway, I will have a ratio of 3:1 hens to cocks in my pattern next season. Personally I would get a dozen hen wigeon and half a dozen of his GHG pintail, there will be four coock pinnies in the box which will add enough brighness to the pattern without having any cock wigeon. Wildfowler12
Had a look on tidepool but couldn't find the offer! Found a good deal on bushwear though and picked some widgeon FUDs up! Thanks for the advice!

mudpatten
If you`re decoying duck don`t forget to consider the use of a mallard call. Something inexpensive by Buck Gardner such as the "Double nasty" (I don`t think up the names!")is a good starting point. It will take a little time and effort to master but there is a shed load of tuition stuff on Youtube. Especially take a look at the Buck Gardner "call orientation" series. Once you`ve mastered the call it will significantly add to your bag.
scolopax
Mallard calls can be extremely good, very satifying when you pull a pair of mallard into range which were flying 200m away.
