As a new member to this forum i would like to say hello, just got my shotgun certificate through the post, from sending my application interview and recieving it has only taken 3 weeks,so im very pleased with the Norfolk FAO team.

Have just secured my gun cabinet to the wall, but has not yet been checked by a FAO so am i ok to purchase or borrow a shotgun?

I would be gratefull for some feedback, thanks.

Hi,the land owner gave me a 5 gun cabinet,it had wallpaper all over it but i sorted it with a nice coat of hammerite and is securly fixed.I have been doing some rabbit control on his land with a bsa s10.Pigeons are a big problem here so as they say "the right tool for the right job".

He lent me a gunmark kestrel 20 bore and a bag of cartridges yesterday, put out some decoys,i had several shots but couldnt hit a damn thing,im doing the same today but will hopefully bag a few.

He is going to lend me a 12 bore so i can see which i prefere before i buy one, what a top dude.

I cannot afford lessons so i think its going to be a bumpy ride to start with as shotguns are so different to shoot compared to a scoped precharged airgun which i am used to.

I am ok with shotgun safety, really enjoyed yesterday and should be good fun today.

Safe shooting.

Can I offer you a couple of safety tips without offending you, its better to know than not know. First, my rule is to never have a shotgun closed lower than your waiste line, loaded or not. 2nd after firing your shots off and before reloading, always look down the inside bores and make sure they aren't blocked (esp in snow) 3rd Never, never, rely on a safety catch as your saviour, 4th never leave your gun left in the hide propped up against a hedge or netting especially if you have a dog. I would strongly advice you to go shooting with some one experienced in shooting. Bad habits can stay with you for life. I wish you safe and happy shooting mate :good: :good: :good:

No offence taken mate, the owner has given me a rundown on safety, and keeps an eye on me.

Thanks lads for the warm welcome,im sure i will have plenty of questions to ask,i see there are a few suffolk lads on here,i work in suffolk and have noticed the sheep are much more nervous there than in norfolk  .

The landowner said he has a collection of 8 shotguns including a pair of old english shotguns,i cleaned the 20 bore before i gave it back to him as it had some slight surface rust on it,it came up like new and the wood stock looked a treat. He is a good ol boy and was well chuffed how clean the 20 bore came up,going to lend me a 12 bore next, might get a chance to go through the collection if i keep handing them back cleaned and oiled. :good:

Welcome. Sounds like you got a good-un there. I started with air-rifles and still use them for bunny bopping and HFT. Awesome, the new technology compared to my youth popping pigeons off the roof. Had to use open sights as we couldn't afford scopes.

What always amazes me is that if you offer someone a bunny they often turn their nose up even if you offer to skin it and joint it. Yet they are quite happy to eat paella on holliday which is full of it.
