ziplex
Ouch :o Certainly makes you pick your shots, I think I paid £18.00 for 10 last time I bought them. You'll start to learn all sorts of lovely new swear words if you miss, i've heard muffled laughter from a shooting partner before now as a bird as sailed on by, he finds it quite amusing.....and educational too I guess
scolopax
The earlier Hevi-shot could also pluck geese from the heavens, still got a few hundred to keep me going for a season or two , mainly 36 grm but also some 40 grm. I have some 32 grm 3's which are also deadly on geese. The hard part is putting the pattern on the goose. Heart breaking when you have a couple of triple misses, not so much the cost but the fact I know they will be very diificult/ impossible to replace. 2 oz of home loaded Hevi 2's through the ten is extremely bad medicine and will stuff geese much further than you should really be shooting at them, but now I have an eight I tend to use that with ITM even though it is outranged by the modern ten/ Hevi shot combo. If I take the ten then I use factory steel 2's for ducks and lowish geese, with a few homeloaded hevi for any more rangey geese. For ducks I use steel, generally Gamebore and Hull, I have heard that Lyvale was pitiful when put through a chrono. If I know that it is going to be long range 'big' ducks then I have a small supply of Hevi shot 5's in a 32 grm load that I take out occasionally. I know the guys who know their stuff homeloading have produced some excellent steel loads for both ducks and geese but I find the combination of factory steel and hevi good enough for my needs (using a 3½" auto but generally only 3" shells). My mate's got an 8.......can't imagine what a heavy load of hevi-shot would be capable of? it's impressive enough with tungsten/steel, there's nothing like hearing that 'whump' from his Tolley and watching a high bird fold
scolopax
I don't use Hevi through my Eight, 2¼ oz of buffered ITM 1's is her preferd diet, although I will admit I shoot better with my twelve and ten ! It's still taking some getting used to having two barrels side by side as opposed to the single sighting plane of an O/U. (Well thats my excuse anyway). A chap on the wildfowling forum had a modernish steel barrelled single eight which he experimented with putting Hevi through, very effective I believe, could be used with equal confidence for Pinks on the Wash or Rhino in the Cape Ok, tried and failed many times to get a photo on here, you'l just have to take my word for it thats she's very very nice. motty
I had a result today. I bought 3 boxes of hevi shot and a box of tungsten shells from an ad in this months sporting gun. The bloke lives less than 2 miles from me and i paid £25. Bargain!

Hi. I'm having trouble getting onto the wildfowling forum at the moment. Any ideas why? I was going to have a look at some of Gerard's posts on his homeloads.
