soulboy1957
I have the opportunity to get some .223 40g speer spire points, question is i want them for my .222.....which i use .224 in,all i can find on the net is that .223 is a .22 hornet size? Any ideas? Thanks.
casts_by_fly
the .223 was the original hornet diameter. Now all modern hornets (and other 22 centerfires) are 224 and most bullets are 224. Guys with .223 barrels shoot 224 bullets with no problems. The 223 bullets would be safe down your bore, but accuracy could suffer. Only way to know is to try. That said, the 40 gr spire points are pretty explosive and lightly built. Could be fun in a 222. Thanks Rick
soulboy1957
Thanks Rick The CZ527 seems to shoot most bullets quite well, was thinking of 19.5g of H4198 = 3100 fps..sort of hornet territory. Anyway ive been offered several hundred for silly money, gauged them and tried the in the press with a sized case, cant see any difference. casts_by_fly
that seem kinda hot to me, though my reference point is against the 17 cal version where I've only got about 12.3 grains for a max load. Lil gun is supposed to be THE powder for the 22 hornet. Haven't tried it in a 22 hornet, but I've tried it in the 17 hornet (just okay) and in the 221 fireball (shoots awesome) so it would be on my short list to try. thanks rick
Vermincinerator
.223 bullets are meant for early Hornets, the confusion lies in the fact that 223 is also the commercial name for a cartridge and not its bore size which is .224, the same as all .22 cal centrefires including your .222.
