how to introduce a pigeon magnet in your pattern

Magnets do sometimes scare them. I tend to put mine so the birds don't have to fly over it to get to the pattern. So if the birds are coming from the right I'll put it about 15 - 20 yards past the decoy pattern to the left. This way the birds head towards the magnet but see the decoys before they reach it and hopefully go for the decoys.

The main thing is to watch the birds reaction to it and don't be scared to move it accordingly. If say th birds are coming from in front but then swing one side of it say forty yards to the right, then I'll move it forty yards to the left this way when they avoid it by forty yards they head straight over you.

Other days they want to dive-bomb it, then you place it in front of you. Different ways for different days is how I was taught.
