Drive By
Hi, Have been trying to find somewhere (fairly) local (in and around Chelmsford/Essex) where i might be able to pick up some tweed shooting gear for formal days without spending the small fortune some companies want! I found this place which does stuff at much more manageable prices for me http://www.bobparratt.co.uk/index.htm but it's pretty far away and i would like to try on some of the gear before investing. I'd like it to be matching stuff, realise there are a lot of opinions on tweed but am just looking for any recommendations on shops that aren't so far away as Cumbria! Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance.
WGD
Bob Parratt are good to deal with, but personally I'm not that keen on their stuff. I buy from Haggarts of Aberfeldy and there really is no comparison in quality.
Drive By
Why not so keen? I have just looked at some of Haggarts stuff - very nice but somewhat out of my price range for a few years!!
Fatcatsplat
Well firstly, Bob Parratt gear is excellent - I have several bits from them and it's well made and well priced. As far as tweed goes, take a look in Eastern Sporting or Ronnie Crowe in Great Baddow or Essex Gun in Rush Green. They are all going to be very expensive though if you get the technical stuff. There is a Musto factory store in Ashford that gets some good bits. If you want some reasonably decent stuff at a good price you could do worse than looking at Rydale. Brad93
Yep gotta say the tweed i see in essex gun always catches my eye but it is prices. I suppose you could see it as an investment because its never going to go out of fashion on a shoot haha

Don't get me wrong, Parratt's stuff is good value. I don't agree with fatcatsplat, it is definitely not excellent. It is made to a price and feels it. If you want a full suit to look smart on a driven day it will do fine. I wear my haggarts stuff, +4s in particular, for everything from driven shooting to fox control and hill stalking. I have had a pair of Bob Parratt breeks and they were not made for that kind of work, nor were they durable enough to withstand it. Only my opinion, but you did ask
Drive By
Thats all good input thanks guys! Want to buy something that will last it's just getting a full suit fo good stuff will cost far more than i can afford! Eastern is much to expensive for me, i'll try ronnie crowes tough, always forget about that place!
