Tyre wear

Hi. I have Bf Goodrich on my Nissan Terrano. The fronts have started to wear on the outsides more than the middle & inside. Will this be due to the tracking????

 

Has the suspension been changed or lifted (no matter how much)? or have you put bigger than standard tyres on?

 

I have had this problem since I upgraded the suspension on my Jeep to Old Man Emu stuff. It actually alters the camber which promotes the uneven wear, unfortunately on the jeep, i am going to have to buy replacement upper A arms to bring the geometry back to factory.

 

If it was the tracking you would see uneven wear form side to side, if the abnormal wear is symetrical then it isn't the tracking.

Hi, you will find that most 4x4 and some people carriers are prone to wearing off the outer edge of tyres, even if the track/camber/castor angles are all within tolerances. This is because of when cornering you get a certain amount of body roll and this causes the outer edge of the tyre to "load up", BUT this happens over a long period of time and even though the outer edges will wear faster, the rest of the tyre should be pretty well worn by the time the outer becomes a problem. I get this on my frontera and i know the track/camber/castor angles are all spot on as i do it myself :good: Probaly best to get the tracking checked as it is a lot cheaper than a set of tyres every few months.

As said , you`ll find most 4x4`s will do this ,

Ive ran Mitsi`s / Nissans/ Toyotas / Rangerovers/ Daihatsu`s +Landrovers all models -- they all do it :yes:

so long as you have checked everything and all in tolerance dont worry too much its very common .

 

Get your tyres spun on the rims and wear out the other shoulders to even the wear ( remove tyre - spin 180 - refit + re-balance) should help prolong tyre life :good:

Not sure what tyres you have but many are directional so you can't spin them as they would be running 'backwards'

Correct rotation will be marked with an arrow on the tyre.

or spin them on rim and then rotate diagonally across the axles ---front n/s to rear o/s -- front o/s to rear n/s and wear them out across the back axle ..

A practice that never seems to happen these days - as you say > due to directional tyres : > and correct > an arrow on the sidewall will give the clue of correct rotation :good: .

 

--- it`s the old fashioned way of even tyre wear all round ,, and throw the spare in for good good practice (providing its the same size rim + tyre and not a silly space saver) :good::yes:

Its normal wear n tear on a 4WD in my opinion, as stated already, they just do!

My Frontera wears tyres in the same way, since I've raised the suspension 50mm its worse, plus it handles like a cow on roller skates, but is BIG FUN in the mud and on green lanes :good::lol:
