dipper
Hi Just wondering how many of you have loaded lv cartridges. Came up with a nice load end of last season. Found some no4 shot load was 1 1/4oz 4 in a new cheddite primed case 24g a1 powder lbc24 wad 2 slits 3/4 deep plus 20g cork wads rto with frangible disk. Loaded 6 up to try. Most of my guns are tight chokes ie live pigeon guns i have2 with 2 sets of barrels. I use 1/4 and 1/2 for game . Wanted to see how they performed on long shots.First shot a rabbit going away a quartering shot , second shot hen pheasant long crossing both were a good 40 yards. I fired 1/2 choke both shots . when i got them ready for cooking i was suprised to find they had 10 pellets each.I think the wads made them shoot tight.Would like to try same load but with 22g of powder any ideas on velocity. thank you Dipper. Guest cookoff013
yeah its just a 36g subsonic load. its soft on the shoulder and the shot carries its energy further. if you pattern the load it should hotcore, but as you already have a "tight" choked guns. why did you use the lbc wad when there are 36g lead wads available. it takes approx 1200fps for the shot to start opening up, so i`m not supprised. the a1 powder is usually for normal 32g loads. but is suitable for subsonic 36g loads in 12gauge. i would say, use an appropriate wad, and you`ll be able to load cartridges faster, and cheaper. if you decrease the powder you will get less speed and pressure. if it is already subsonic then it will be too slow to be of any use.
